Who is Daniel Juma Omondi?

Daniel Juma Omondi was born on 19th March 1972 in Nairobi's Jamaa Maternity Hospital to the Late Henry Omondi Okumu and Ms Seline Ojode Omondi.  He grew up in Nairobi's Harambee Estate and currently works as an Assistant Manager with Korea Trade Center in Nairobi Kenya.

He comes from Karuoth Village, Ukwala Division in Siaya District and was educated in Sigweng Karuoth Primary School and Ukwala High School. He studied Business Management and Marketing at the Kenya Polytechnic and during his time in school represented Kenya in the 18th Mr. & Miss University International Beauty Pageant]held in Lumine Hall Tokyo Japan in 1995 together with Miss Maryanne Waithiru from the University of Nairobi. At this Pageant, he won the International Friendship Award and was later on invited back to Japan by the International Relief Friendship Foundation - IRFF to take part in a volunteer programme to raise money for charitable causes in Africa and later joined Japan Africa Culture Interchange Institute where he learnt to speak Japanese. As a young student he was involved in youth activities and worked as the 1st Secretary General and later on the Vice Chairman of the Youth Federation for World Peace Kenyan Chapter an international NGO registered in Kenya.

During this time, he was instrumental in setting up the Free Teens-in Kenya which is a reality-based, abstinence-centered, HIV AIDS & Drugs pregnancy prevention program, used around the world and affiiated to the US based  Free Teens in the US. He spent most of his time giving motivational talks to students all over the country promoting the slogan "Be Free from Drugs & AIDS - Abstain & Refrain".  In 1996, he joined with other students and registered Mr. & Miss University Beauty Pageant National Committee and organized the 1996 Mr. & Miss University National Beauty Pageant in Kenya at the Kenya National Theatre. This event saw Mr. Kevin Ombajo of USIU-A and Miss Lisa Kimalat of JKUAT declared the 1996 Mr. & Miss University Kenya respectively and they proceeded to represent Kenya in the 19th Pageant in Tokyo Japan. From 1995 onwards, the Mr. & Miss University Beauty Pageant has been held annually and consistently in Kenya and is recognized in all public and private Universities.

Daniel later left the country in 1996 to attend an International Leadership Training in South Korea and thereafter joined Il-Heung Inc. a shipbuilding company in Mokpo Korea where he underwent a training in Shipbuilding and thereafter worked in the Public Relations Department. He then joined Asia Union Trading Company in Korea as an International Marketing Manager and later got a job with Hyose Incorporated in Tarlac Phillipines. He later left Phillipines and later joined Gerhard-Mercator-Universität Duisburg in Germany to study Ostasienwissenschaften (East Asian Studies). He discontinued his studies in Germany and returned to Kenya in 1999 where he joined Korea Trade Center KOTRA as a Trade Officer. He is currently the Assistant Manager at KOTRA Nairobi and has been promoting Trade & Investment between South Korea and the East & Central Africa Region. He is an accomplished market researcher having authored more than 100 different market researches for various Korean companies.  Apart from Luo, English and Swahili, Daniel has a command of Korean and Japanese not to mention a little German.

As his Community Social Responsibitlity, Daniel also serves as the Patron of Mr. & Miss University in Kenya, is a member of Mr. & Miss University International Organization and was in 2006 appointed to serve as the Africa Coordinator of Mr. & Miss University International. Due to his crucial role, the Mr. & Miss University International Beauty Pageant]has played a very important role in Kenya’s Entertainment and Fashion Industry and goes down in History as the first ever International Beauty Pageant to be organized annually in the country. Although not actively engaged in politics due to the nature of his work, Daniel is actively involved in creating awareness among the Kenyan youth and his ideas inspired the founding of the Young Life Movement whose registration is still pending at the Registrar of Societies.  Through this and other yout initiatives, he would like to actively involve teh you in the fight against tribalism and is working closely with Mr. Jacob Ouma the current Runners' Up Mr. University International who is launching a countrywide anti ethnicity campaign. He plans to make a debut in Parliament in either 2007 or 2012 via Ugenya or Makadara Constituency.
